Prolotherapy (PRP)
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood,
centrifuged to remove red blood cells. blood is mainly a liquid called plasma, it also contains small solid components red cells, white cells, and platelets. It has a greater concentration of growth factors than whole blood, and has been used to encourage a brisk healing response across several specialties.
PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors can be 5 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual.
PRP treatment include:
- The overall health of the patient
- The area of the body being treated
- Whether the injury is acute (such as from a fall) or chronic (an injury developing over time)
